Open the gas supply or cylinder valve, press and turn the knob to the ignition position, and hold it for a few seconds until the flame stays lit. On a manual stove, light a match or lighter first, then turn the knob. Always keep the flame blue and never leave the stove unattended.

A healthy gas stove flame is blue. An orange or yellow flame usually means blocked burner holes, dirt or poor air mixing, so clean the burner. A green flame is unusual and is often caused by residue or dirty parts. If the color does not return to blue after cleaning, have a technician check it.
